Resurrection Cemetery: A Haunting Resting Place
Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, Illinois, isn't just one of Chicago's largest cemeteries; it's also one of its most haunted. Established in 1904, this vast burial ground has been the final resting place for thousands of souls. But some say not all of them rest peacefully.
The cemetery is most famous for the legend of Resurrection Mary, a ghostly figure who has been spotted along Archer Avenue since the 1930s. The story goes that Mary was a young woman who met her untimely end after a night of dancing. Now, she supposedly roams the area in a white dress, hitchhiking and vanishing when motorists near the cemetery. Some have claimed to pick up a distraught young woman who directs them to the Cemetery, only for her to disappear upon arrival. Others have reported seeing her inside the cemetery gates, grasping the bars as if trying to escape.
Aside from Resurrection Mary, visitors have also reported other eerie occurrences, such as strange lights, unexplained cold spots, and ghostly apparitions. Some even say that the gates of the cemetery have shown unexplained scorch marks, believed to be from Mary's attempts to escape the graveyard.
